Vibration testing for new car models is a complex task that requires the use of many sensors, ranging from tens to hundreds, to measure vibrations throughout the entire vehicle. Traditionally, this process involves the time-consuming installation of wired sensors, which includes routing cables to the correct locations and securely attaching all components to ensure high-quality data collection. Additionally, this method implies carrying a large computer along to process the sensor data.

In the automotive industry, noise reduction and weight saving are a constant challenge, since addressing the former can impair the latter. Metamaterials offer a solution for this matter by combining lightweight design with performant noise and vibration capabilities. The three-party partnership connecting Phononic Vibes (startup), Adler Pelzer (Tier 1), and Mercedes-Benz (OEM), pursues the goal to realize the metamaterial technology for mass production.
